Lecture 1: Customized corneal transplantation: a revolution in evolution

Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, attendees should be able to:

  • Describe the criteria that should be considered when deciding whether to perform penetrating keratoplasty (PK) versus deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) for corneal ectasia and corneal stromal scarring.
  • Assess the pros and cons of Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) over Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK).
  • List some of the outcomes of repeat penetrating keratoplasty versus Boston type I keratoprosthesis implantation for corneal transplant failure

Lecture 2: Cataract surgery in patients with corneal disease: pearls and pitfalls

Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, attendees should be able to:

  • Describe the indications for treating epithelial basement membrane corneal dystrophy.
  • Apply best practice criteria in deciding when to perform endothelial keratoplasty in conjunction with cataract surgery in patients with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy.
  • Generate strategies to minimize the risk of endothelial decompensation when performing cataract extraction in the patient with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy.

How to Participate:

WAEPS members should register for each session in the series by contacting the WAEPS office: [email protected] at least four hours prior to the program. They may also log into their WAEPS member account via the website and register online. Those wishing to participate via webinar will be provided with that month’s login information. To claim CME credit for any of the sessions in this series, please download the credit claim form from the WAEPS website’s Monthly Meeting page and keep track of the sessions you attend. Be sure to submit that form to the WAEPS office no later than May 31, 2019. In addition, in-person attendees must sign in at each session to have their participation verified and receive credit. Note that WAEPS membership is required in order to claim credit for the series.
